Looking to hire a comic for your curling event? Look no further!
Yes, that’s right. John is the only ‘curling comic’ out there with his type of experience in both fields. You know his credentials as a comic, but his credentials as a curler are perhaps even more telling.
Having been a curler on the World Curling Tour for the last 10 years, John has traveled across Western Canada to play in events and has been a competitor at the BC provincials 7 times, finishing with a bronze medal in 2012 and 2016, and a silver in 2015. He brings curling knowledge to his shows that will appeal to curlers of all skill levels and age groups. John has performed at events for curlers under 16 and over 60, and can adapt his style and material to any curling audience as required.
He also writes a popular interview series on the Curling Canada website called Magical Question Fun Time, and before that, started his own curling interview webseries called Cullen and a Curler. He’s interviewed just about everyone you can think of in curling and is adding to that list all the time.
Curling Canada posted an article about John’s dual life as a comedian and curler, and which may answer any other questions you might have about him: http://www.curling.ca/blog/2015/07/09/curlings-funny-man-takes-centre-stage/.
John has performed at numerous curling events, including the following:
Canadian Junior Championships
CurlBC’s Year-End Awards Banquet
BC Men’s Championships
BC Mixed Championships
BC Masters Championships(60+)
BC Junior Championships
Optimist International Championships(U-18)
Optimist Junior Curling League Banquet
2015 Team Manitoba(Team Carruthers) Brier Send-Off Party
Numerous other bonspiels and league wrap-up/kick-off parties
These people were intelligent enough to hire John and said these nice things about him:
“John is one of the funniest people I know. His stand-up is well worth the price of admission and made our Brier send-off unique and hilarious.”
–Reid Carruthers, Skip of Team Manitoba 2015 and former Canadian and World Champion
“John performed at the BC Masters Championship banquet on March 6, 2015. He was definitely a hit! Comments were extremely favorable – we would most certainly recommend him as an entertainer/comedian. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and were very impressed with his ability to connect with a somewhat mature (over 60) audience. A positive experience on all levels!”
–Noreen Martin, Co-Chair, 2015 BC Masters Championships
“John was incredibly well received by the athletes and coaches, and kept everyone entertained. His knowledge of the sport was excellent, and allowed him to really connect with the athletes and interact with them during his routine. I would highly suggest him for any future curling related events.”
–Kelsey Stefanizyn, Organizing Chair, 2013 Canadian Junior Curling Championships
